The UK's Blue Dolphin Film & Video is teaming up with Hollywood Classics and MGM to handle and distribute the MGM Library, which incorporates MGM/UA, Orion, PolyGram and Cannon for theatrical and non-theatrical distribution in the UK.
This library is the largest film library in the world with a range of titles unsurpassed from the Bonds to the first Terminator and Platoon and the golden age of Hollywood.
According to Blue Dolphin, the distributor will "proactively" seek out ways to exploit this latest collection of films. This follows on from the company's handling of the Rohauer collection (Buster Keaton, the films of D.W. Griffith and the German Expressionist Cinema), The Goldwyn library and some of the Korda films. Blue Dolphin has had many one off re-issues such as The Hustler, McCabe And Mrs Miller and Lillith.
Blue Dolphin's Joe D'Morais enthused: "For me this is a dream come true - it's like being a kid in a candy store, so many of these films have played a major part in my life."
Commented Gina Stroud MGM's Executive Vice President International Distribution and Marketing: "Joe D'Morais and Blue Dolphin have the expertise in repertory film distribution that we were looking for in the UK market and we believe that the library is in good hands"
