Indo-Canadian filmmaker Deepa Mehta's Bollywood/Hollywood will make its world premiere as the opening night film for the Toronto International Film Festival's Perspective Canada programme.

Among the other 16 world premieres announced were Long Life, Happiness And Prosperity by Mina Shum and two Canada/UK co-productions, The Wild Dogs by Thom Fitzgerald and Canadian actor Daniel McIvor's feature debut, Past Perfect.

Set in Toronto, Mehta's romantic comedy combines a Hollywood plot and a Bollywood morality play and stars several major stars of Indian cinema including Canadian-born Indian supermodel Lisa Ray, Indian actors Rahul Khanna, Moushumi Chatterjee, Dina Pathak, Kulbushan Kharbanda and Ranjit Chowdhry.

Written and directed by Mehta, the film is produced by David Hamilton, and executive produced by David Hamilton, Ajay Virmani, and Camelia Frieberg. It is distributed in Canada by Mongrel Media Inc.

The long-awaited return of Fitzgerald after the critically-acclaimed The Hanging Garden, The Wild Dogs is a drama about one week in the lives of several people in Bucharest, including a pornographer, a dog catcher and the wife of a diplomat.

MacIvor stars in his debut feature opposite Rebecca Jenkins in a story that takes place over two days two years apart in the life of a relationship.

Shum's new film, Long Life, Happiness And Prosperity reunites her with Double Happiness star Sandra Oh in a story about a young girl who tries using Taoist magic in an effort to help her mother with her financial troubles and bleak romantic life.
