FDA reports UK box-office currently running 4% ahead of 2011; passes £300m in year to date in record time.

The UK box office is currently running 4% ahead of the equivalent stage in 2011, according to a new report from the Film Distributors’ Association (FDA).

This year’s box office to date stands at £312.9m to 19 April, up from £301.7 million in 2011.

The box office has also surpassed £300m in record time.

The Hunger Games and The Woman In Black are the year’s top earners at the box office to date, both taking £21.2m.

The FDA also reports that in 2012 to date, the UK has accounted for one-fifth of the cinema box-office in Europe.
