Canadian film and television performers are in an official strike position this morning as last-ditch talks failed between the performers guild, the Alliance of Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), and producers represented by the Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA) and the Association de producteurs de films et de television du Quebec (APFTQ). However, ACTRA cancelled planned pickets set for this morning in Toronto because all productions in the city have independently signed letters of continuance, according to an email announcement issued today.

Technically, the strike against the CFTPA covers production throughout Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Performers in Quebec are expected to follow suit against the APFTQ on Wednesday. Members of the Union of BC Performers operate under a different contract.

ACTRA will be holding a press conference later today.
