In an effort to build itself a year-round brand and keep up with moderntechnology the Cannes festival has launched a DVD label and a new prize.

The festival will not be moving into the rights market, but rather givea badge of approval to a number of titles handled by existing homeentertainment distributors.

For the first edition of the "DVD - Festival De Cannes" label, itappointed a committee of journalists and distributors to pick 20 titlesreleased between June last year and June 2004. The panel considered theartistic merit, bonus material and packaging.

The Prix DVD, which rewards similar criteria, will be launched on Sunday16 May.
