French director Isild de Besco won the main European Competition award for Charly at the fifth Crossing Europe Film Festival. The win is her second in Linz, following Half Price in 2005.
The prize, worth $15,660 (Euros 10,000), was presented by a jury comprised of Swiss film critic Catherine Ann Berger; Rastislav Steranka, co-founder of International Film Festival Cinematik in Piestany, Slovakia; Koen van Daele, Belgian film critic and director of the Izola Film Festival in Slovenia; Dutch film critic Belinda van der Graaf; and Bosnian director Srdjan Vuletic.
A special mention went to Greek director Thanos Anastopoulos for Correction.
Serbian director Stefan Arsenijevic's Berlinale Panorama title Love And Other Crimes received the Ray magazine Audience Award, which provides $7,830 (Euros 5,000) for distribution in Austria.
Barbara Musil received the Award for Local Artist for her role in for Market Sentiments. The prize, worth $9,400 (Euros 6,000), was donated by the Federal Province of Upper Austria and Synchro Film- und Videobearbeitung.
This year's festival saw 16,000 spectators, compared to 2007's 13,000, and more than 500 accredited international and national festival guests.
