Nordisk Film has announcedthat Danish director Henrik RubenGenz's feature Chinaman has beenselected for main competition at the 40th Karlovy Vary International FilmFestival (July 1-9).

Also in the OfficialSelection but not in competition will be The Merchant of Venice, directed by KV jury president MichaelRadford. The closing film of the festival will be Sin City,which will be distributed in the Czech Republic by SPI.

Chinaman stars Vivian Wu (Pillow Book,The Last Emperor) and Bjarne Henriksen (Festen). Kim Fupz Aakeson (Aftermath) wrote the screenplay.

Other films in competitionpreviously announced include The City Of The Sun from Czech director Martin Sulik, My Nikifor from Polish director KrzysztofKrauze and The Unburied Man from director Hungarian director MártaMeszáros.

The festival will announcethe complete list of films competing in the Official Selection on June 13.
