Columbia Pictures has purchased the romantic comedy Bobby Ewing, the debut feature screenplay from US television writer/producer Linda Bloodworth, it was announced by Peter Schlessel, president of production for Columbia.

Bobby Ewing is a comedy about an immigrant whose love for America is equalled only by his daring and desperate attempts to sneak into the country. After nearly two dozen border encounters, he begins to fall for an INS agent who finds it hard to resist his persistence, perseverance and reverence for the American way of life.

The project will be co-produced by Linda Bloodworth and her husband and producing partner, Harry Thomason.

"Linda has written one of those rare and enchanting romantic comedies that really grabs you and holds you page by page," Schlessel said. "This is written with such well-defined characters and a crisp, intelligent voice. We will have fun assembling the right package of talent both behind the scenes and in front of the camera."

Columbia's senior vice president of production Andrea Giannetti will oversee the project along with Schlessel.
