Antonio Nuic’s Donkey, one of the hits of this summer’s Pula International Film Festival, has been chosen as Croatia’s entry to the foreign-language Academy Award.

The family drama, starring well-known Serbian actor  Nebojsa Glogovac with Emir Hadzihafizbegovic and Natasa Janjic, follow a family from Zagreb as it travels to a village in Herzegovina at the end of the war in Croatia in an attempt to resolve decades of family conflict. The co-production between Propeler Film, the UK’s Film and Music Entertainment, Serbia’s Bas Celik, and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Manufaktura, is now on release in Croatia through Continental Film. It has already been selected for the 2010 Gothenburg and Rotterdam film festivals.

Meanwhile, the Macedonian Film Professionals Association has put forwardc Ivo Trajkov’s Wingless, a drama about a man trying to rebuild his life after being left by his wife, as the country’s submission for the foreign-language Oscar. Produced by Kaval Film, it is a co-production with the Czech Republic’s Endorfilm and Czech Television. David Svehlik, Karel Zima, Verica Nedeska and Magdalena Sidonova star. It has yet to be released in Macedonia
