David Cronenberg's AHistory Of Violence was the bigwinner at the 2006 Directors Guild of Canada Awards, winning the prize for allbut one of the feature film categories for which it was eligible, includingOutstanding Achievement in Direction, Team Achievement, Sound Editing andPicture Editing.

Phillip Barker won the prizefor Oustanding Achievement in Production Design for his work on Atom Egoyan's WhereThe Truth Lies.

The awards, encompassingfeature film and television productions, were presented at a ceremony inToronto on Sunday.

Documentary filmmakingveteran Allan King was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for hissubstantial body of work encompassing fiction and documentary. 'I shouldbe giving the Award to the DGC,' said King during his acceptance speech.'The DGC gave me a decade of experience on managing groups - the bestpolitical experience in the world. The management of groups is the key to allfilmmaking.'

Awards presenters included JeremyPodeswa, Tonya Lee Williams, Peter Outerbridge, Wendy Crewson, Paul Gross,Martha Burns, Ashley Legget, Michael Seater and Megan Follows. In all, 19 teamand individual awards were presented.
