Sony's romantic comedy Hitch stayed top over the rain-sodden three-day portion ofPresidents Day as it closed in on $100m and shut out a trio of top 10 debutantsled by Warner Bros' supernatural action title Constantine.

Hitch addedan estimated $31.8m in its second weekend for a $90.1m running total, confirmingWill Smith's status as a bankable star who can open a picture in multiplegenres.

The comic book adaptation Constantine opened to mixed reviews in second placeon a still powerful $30.5m. It stars Keanu Reeves as an unwilling conscript inthe war against demons on Earth. Rachel Weisz also stars. Francis Lawrence'spicture averaged $10,154 on 3,006screens.

Arriving in third place on $10.9m to mixed reviews was TwentiethCentury Fox's family drama Because Of Winn-Dixie from Wayne Wang, which stars Jeff Danielsand Cicely Tyson. It averaged $3,403 on 3,188 screens.

New Line's comedy sequel Son Of The Mask mustered fourth place and $7.7m in ticketsales despite a critical mauling. Alan Cumming and Jamie Kennedy star in thetale of a chaotic mask. Lawrence Gutterman's picture averaged $2,587 on 2,966screens.

Of the Oscar contenders, Warner Bros' Million Dollar Baby slipped one place to fifth on $7.2m for$54.7m after 10 weekends, while The Aviator, released in the US through Miramax,fell one place to ninth on $88.1m after the same amount of time. FoxSearchlight's Sideways ranks10th after its 18th weekend on $58.1m.

Sony/Ghost House Pictures' Boogeyman is closing in on $50m after threeweekends and added $5.5m for $41.1m after tumbling five to seventh.

Next weekend's wide releases include Miramax' horror title Cursedstarring Christina Ricciand Skeet Ulrich; Lions Gate's Diary Of A Mad Black Woman starring Kimberly Elise and SteveHarris; and Sony/Revolution's Man Of The House, which stars Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Archer.
