The event opens with a screening of the Daughters Of Dust, followed by a Q&A session with the director Julie Dash. The US film maker will be presented with a Life Time Achievement Award.
The festival runs to March 4th with screenings, events and workshops, including a seminar with Julie Dash.
There will also be a workshop with British Dami Akinnusi, writer and producer of Darkling Productions.
The film programme includes screenings of two Caribbean films, Asha Lovelace's Joebell & America and Julius Amedee-Laou's French Wedding Caribbean Style, with a Q&A with Amedee-Laou, and French actress Brigitte Damiens.
The Emerging Filmmakers Awards will be held on Sunday with a showcase of the winners' short films, followed by an awards ceremony.
