Britain’s best-loved bear to hit the big screen in CGI live action adaptation of Michael Bond’s children’s classic Paddington Bear.

Producer David Heyman and StudioCanal have announced they are partnering up to bring Paddington Bear to the big screen for the first time in the character’s 50-year history.

“Paddington Bear is a universally loved character, treasured for his optimism, his sense of fair play, and his perfect manners – and of course for his unintentional talent for comic chaos,” said Harry Potter producer Heyman.

The antics of the Marmalade-loving bear, taking his name from London’s Paddington Railway Station where he was found, have delighted millions of children around the world.

Since the first book’s publication in 1958, the Paddington books have sold 35 million copies in 40 languages worldwide.

Paul King – whose previous credits include Come Fly With Me and The Mighty Boosh – will direct the film, which will be a CGI live action adaptation with a modern take aimed at a wide family audience.

StudioCanal is financing and will distribute the film in UK, France and Germany and handle international sales.
