The tagline was "No Mercy. No Shame. No Sequel." but Dimension Films, the genre production and releasing arm of Miramax Films, will break that promise and start production on Scary Movie II later this year. The first film has grossed close to $150m at the domestic box office and will probably be the most profitable film of the year.

The same team behind the first film, a spoof of teen horror movies - director Keenen Ivory Wayans and writer/stars Shawn and Marlon Wayans - will again be behind the second film which Dimension is planning to release in May 2001. Longtime Wayans manager Eric L Gold will produce; Lisa Blum, a co-producer on Scary Movie, will co-executive produce.

Co-chairman of Miramax Bob Weinstein, Cary Granat, president of Dimension, and Brian Burkin, senior vice president of business and legal affairs at Dimension, negotiated the deal on behalf of Dimension. Stephen Barnes of Bloom, Hergot, Diemer & Cook and Eric Gold, of Gold/Miller, negotiated the deal for the Wayans brothers.
