The Dinard Festival of British film handed out its top prize on Sunday in a split decision. Peter Webber's Girl With A Pearl Earring took home the Hitchcock d'Or but will split the purse that goes along with the award with Richard Jobson who won the directing prize for his film 16 Years Of Alcohol about a man trying to escape his past.

Webber's film stars Colin Firth stars in the story of Dutch painter Vermeer and the titular portrait, the girl is played by Scarlett Johannson. Webber also won the audience award.

As for Jobson, Alcohol has yet to find a distributor in France as was the case with many of the competition films making his victory extra sweet.
