Submarine Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights in all media to eighties music films Downtown 81 and Wild Style.

Remastered versions of the films will be released in the US on the new Submarine Deluxe DVD label. Submarine will also handle worldwide sales on the two titles.

Downtown 81 (aka New York Beat Movie) was shot in 1981 but post-produced nearly 20 years later and released in the US and a few international territories in 2001. Directed by Edo Bertoglio, written by Glenn O’Brien and produced by O’Brien and Maripol, the film stars artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in a snapshot of the post-punk Manhattan subculture.

Written, directed and produced by Charlie Ahearn and originally released in 1983, Wild Style is a dramatised version of the South Bronx hip hop scene, with appearances by Grand Master Flash, Fab 5 Freddy and other early rappers.

The deals were negotiated by Submarine’s David Koh, Dan Braun and Josh Braun. Maripol, Glenn O’Brien and Michael Zilkha represented Downtown 81 and Charlie Ahearn represented Wild Style .
