TriPictures has picked up Spanish theatrical rights to Lisa Azuelos’ US remake of her own French coming-of-age comedy LOL and Luc Besson’s adventure film The Extraordinary Adventures Of Adele Blanc-Sec.

Lionsgate is handling international sales on LOL: Laughing Out Loud, which will be written and directed by Azuelos and is set to star Demi Moore as the divorced mother of a troubled teen played by Miley Cyrus who suffers her first broken heart.

Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher of Double Feature Films are producing the remake with Romain Le Grand and Nathan Kahane as executive producers. CAA packaged the project, set up the financing and is handling North American rights.

The original version of LOL, also directed by Azuelos and starring Sophie Marceau, proved to be a huge hit in France last year taking $30m through Pathe.

TriPictures has also picked up Luc Besson’s $37m fantasy adventure film The Extraordinary Adventures Of Adele Blanc-Sec from Besson’s studio EuropaCorp ahead of its world premiere at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival on April 9.

Based on the Franco-Belgian comics written and illustrated by Jacques Tardi, the film is set in Paris around the First World War and follows the life of popular novelist Adele (Louise Bourgoin), as she deals with a monster, would-be suitors and other distractions. Mathieu Amalric co-stars.
