UK outfit picks up documentary about reggae music in 1970s London.

UK distributor Verve Pictures has acquired UK rights to director/producer Menelik Shabazz’s documentary The Story Of Lovers Rock, which charts the impact of reggae style Lovers Rock on London in the 1970s.

Contributors to the film include UB40, Maxi Priest, Levi Roots and Linton Kwesi Johnson.

A release date has been set for Sept 30.

Shabazz stated: “The film connects the music with the children of that era, a generation whose story has rarely been told. Lovers Rock was significant because it provided the space for young people to share intimate feelings through dance which is absent with today’s generation”.
