Zipporah Films, distributor of the films of veteran documentarian Frederick Wiseman, has contracted mTuckman media to handle the US theatrical release of Wiseman’s Cannes Directors Fortnight entry Boxing Gym.

The film, about an Austin, Texas gym where people of all ages, races and classes train, will open in New York City on October 22 before rolling out to theatres across the country.

Michael Tuckman’s mTuckman previously handled the release of Wiseman’s La Danse — The Paris Opera Ballet, which played in nearly 150 US theatres and has grossed over $600,000.

Boxing Gym, which had its world premiere at Cannes last month, was produced by KO Films Inc in association with the Independent Television Service and Public Broadcasting Service, with support from support the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, National Endowment for the Arts, Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program, and LEF Moving Image Fund.

Sara Kiener’s Film Presence will once again handle marketing and outreach on the film, as it did for La Danse.
