Lionsgate knew exactly how to get us in the mood last night at a special press screening of Magic Mike….
It’s not unusual for distributors to lay on a few treats for journalists at press screenings - normally in the form of wine, or mini hot dogs if we’re lucky.
But Lionsgate went one better last night at a London press screening of Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper themed Magic Mike, with a special pre film performance by a very talented group of young men called The Dream Idols..
They started out in raincoats and glasses and ended up in, erm, absolutely nothing. Which was just fine by us. And there wasn’t a mini hot dog in sight.
Ok, so they weren’t Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey. But they had their own special qualities. And it definitely put us in just the right frame of mind for Magic Mike, which was thoroughly entertaining (there’s actually a lot more to it than just stripping..honestly!).
I managed to track down the Dream Idols after the film, who, being the gentlemen that they are, very kindly obliged when I asked them to show off their six packs for a photo..
Their manager also handed me his business card with their details on. (www.dream-idols.com)
We’re thinking of booking them for our next Screen party.
