Franchise Pictures' Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her, which boasts a cast including Holly Hunter, Glenn Close, Cameron Diaz and Calista Flockhart, will screen in the gala section of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (August 13-27).

The festival has also confirmed Simon Cellan Jones' Cannes Directors' Fortnight title Some Voices, which appears in the Focus on British Cinema section. Another gala screening will go to Brazilian comedy Eu Tu Eles (Me, You, Them).

Director Kevin Macdonald, who won an Oscar this year for One Day In September, will be in town to present A Brief History Of Errol Morris. Also attending is composer Carter Burwell, whose credits include Velvet Goldmine and the Coen brothers' films. Burwell is to discuss clips of his work with a live audience.

Sundance and Cannes title Girlfight gets an outing in the Rosebud section, which showcases edgier work from first and second time directors. As previously announced, director Max Ophuels will be the subject of a major retrospective.
