The European Film Academy has chosen Swiss documentary The Sound Of Insects: Record Of A Mummy as the recipient of their outstanding documentary award, which will be presented at the 22nd European Film Awards ceremony on December 12.

The film, directed by Peter Liechti, follows a hunter who comes across a mummified corpse in the middle of a forest, and discovers the man kept a detailed personal journal of his intentional self-starvation. It picked up the Millennium Award at the Planete Doc Review Film Festival in Warsaw in May,

The EFA selected the winner in co-operation with European culture channel ARTE. It has already announced that Ken Loach will receive this year’s lifetime achievement award, while French actress Isabelle Huppert will receive an award for European achievement in world cinema.
