The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) has, for the first time, been included in the list of non-European film festivals eligible for European Film Promotion's Film Sales Support (FSS) initiative.

Four European sales agents and one production company are receiving FFS support for the marketing of seven films.

These include Stefan Ruzowitzky's The Counterfeiters, which won the best foreign-language film Oscar this year, and is screening in the HKIFF's gala presentation section. Beta Cinema is handling international sales on the film.

Most of the other films are part of the HKIFF's 'Global Vision' programme, including Hans Weingartner's Reclaim Your Brain and Pia Marrais' The Unpolished, both sold by Germany's The Match Factory, and Hungarian film Milky Way sold by Inforg Studio.

Also receiving FSS support are two films from France 's Wide Management: Philippe Ramos' Captain Ahab and Jan Bonny's Counterparts. France 's Umedia is selling compilation The State Of The World, by six directors including Chantal Akerman and Pedro Costa.

Backed by the Media Programme of the European Union, the FSS has already supported the promotion of European films at the Shanghai and Pusan film festivals.
