Nascent French outfit Elle Driver has picked up the mandate to hot Japanese title The Sky Crawlers for European sales.
Directed by Mamoru Oshii, the animated film is presented by Nippon Television Network and Production I.G. It will have its debut in Japan on August 2 when Warner Bros. releases it there.
Billed as the Greatest Love Story Ever, The Sky Crawlers is the tale of Yuichi, a young fighter pilot with only a vague memory of his past. A woman at his new airbase, Suito, seems as if she has been waiting to meet him for a long time and Yuichi is gradually drawn to her. Meanwhile, all the base's pilots must confront a mysterious enemy flying ace called Teacher and Yuichi begins to regain part of his memory.
The story is based on a best-selling novel by Hiroshi Mori. Wild Bunch Distribution is releasing the film in France.
