LivUllmann will receive the European Achievement in World Cinema award at thisyear's European Film Awards ceremony, to be held on December 11 in Barcelona.

The Norwegian-born actress and director is best known forher collaborations with Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, including Persona,Scenes From A Marriage and Cries And Whispers, among others. Theirmost recent work together was 2003 TV movie Saraband.

Her career as a director began with a segment for 1982's Love,followed by a string of titles including the well-received Faithless(2000). She is currently preparing A Doll's House.

Inaddition, Ullmann has also authored books, appeared in stage productions inEurope and the United States, and worked as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Shehas also held top positions in the International Rescue Committee, an NGO forrefugees, and FERA (the Federation of European Film Directors).

The 17th edition of the EFA will be couched in aweekend of activities in Barcelona, including a Co-Production Forum (Dec 10),the Academy's general assembly, a conference focusing on European actors, thepresentation of Shooting Stars and a tribute to director Carlos Saura, thefirst Spaniard ever to receive the EFA honour.
