North American films have a notable presence at the upcoming 24th edition of Portugal's leading Oporto International Film Festival (Feb 20-Mar 1), better known as Fantasporto.

Twenty films make up the Fantasy Film selection of the Official Competition. The Director's Week competition will feature 11, mostly European titles from directors such as Anders Tomas Jensen or Alex de la Iglesia.

The non-genre specific Premiere & Panorama showcase will open with Michael Polish's Northfork and close with Wayne Kramer's The Cooler. It complements other sections such as the Melies d'Argent competition and an Orient Express sidebar.

In the Fantasy section, from the US and Canada come Marcus Nispel's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (US), Eli Roth's Cabin Fever (US), Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses (US), Jean-Baptiste Andrea and Fabrice Canepa's Dead End (Fr, US), Lynn Hershman Leeson's Teknolust (US), Greg Pac's Robot Stories (US) and Karim Hussain's Ascension (Can).

European competitors include Nicholas Winding Refn's Fear X (Den), Julian Richards' The Last Horror Movie (UK), Nicholas AJ Sherard's Don't Look Back (UK), Tony Luke's Dominator (UK), Hermine Huntgeburth's Bibi Blocksberg (Ger). Brian Yuzna's Beyond Re-Animator, Enric Folch's Tempus Fugit and Laura Mana's Killing Words will represent Spain.

Finally, Greg Page's The Locals (NZ) complements Asian entries Park Ki-Hyeong's Acacia (Kor), Kim Jee-woon's A Tale Of Two Sisters (Kor), Lee Jong-Hyuk's H (Kor) and Chisui Takigawa's Lucky Ears (Jap).
