Seoul-based sales agent Finecut has picked up international rights to Pieta, the latest film from prolific Korean auteur Kim Ki-duk.

Scheduled to start shooting this month, the film tells the story of a cruel loan shark, who believes he doesn’t have any family or loved ones, so has no need to fear when committing brutal acts. But one day a mysterious woman appears in his life claiming to be his mother.

The film, which will be Kim’s 18th feature, will be widely distributed in Korea by one of the country’s top three distributors, Next Entertainment World (NEW).
