Fireworks Pictures - the domestic distribution subsidiary of Jay Firestone's Toronto-based CanWest Entertainment - has closed its latest acquisition at MIFED, taking US rights to Paul Cox's award-winning crowd-pleaser Innocence from sales agent Cinemavault Releasing.

The deal was sealed by Fireworks vice president of acquisitions and co-productions Bob Aaronson and Cinemavault CEO Nick Stiliades. Innocence and other Fireworks acquisitions such as Simon Magus and Better Than Sex (co-acquired with Samuel Goldwyn Films) are released through IDP - a joint venture with Goldwyn and Stratosphere Entertainment.

Innocence, which shared the top prize at Montreal this year, stars Julia Blake and Charles Tingwell, as two senior citizens attempting a late-in-life stab at romance.
