First Look Media has acquired worldwide rights to Griffin Dunne's digital video film Lisa Picard Is Famous which first screened in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival 2000 with the title Famous. First Look's international sales division Overseas Filmgroup will handle international sales while domestic distributor First Look Pictures will release it theatrically in Aug this year.

Strand Releasing had originally struck a deal to buy the film for the US at Cannes last year, a deal which this supercedes, although neither GreeneStreet or Strand were available to comment at time of going to press.

The First Look deal was struck between MJ Peckos, First Look Pictures' president, with John Penotti, president of the film's production company GreeneStreet Films, and Vicki Cherkas, GreeneStreet's head of business affairs, business development and new ventures.

The film follows the comic dreams and dramas of an aspiring actress (played by co-writer Laura Kirk) and features personal appearances as themselves by Sandra Bullock, Carrie Fisher, Melissa Gilbert, Buck Henry, Spike Lee, Penelope Ann Miller and Charlie Sheen. Producers were actress Mira Sorvino and Dolly Hall. Executive producers were Penotti, Sydney Kimmel, Fisher Stevens, Bradley Yonover and Andrew S Karsch.

GreeneStreet and First Look previously worked together on John Turturro's Illuminata. Other current GreeneStreet projects include Pinero to which Miramax has worldwide rights, The Chateau to which IFC Films has domestic and Fortissimo Film Sales international rights and swimfan85 which is being backed by Cobalt Media Group.
