First Run Features has acquired North American rights to Daniel Karslake's documentary For The Bible Tells Me So, which received its world premiere at Sundance.

First Run Features plans an October theatrical release on the film, which reconciles homosexuality with the traditional reading of scripture through the personal stories of the South African cleric Desmond Tutu and others.

Karslake produced and Michael Huffington, Bruce Bastian, Robin Voss, Robert Greenbaum and Keith Lewis served as executive producers.

'It is very exciting that a great company like First Run is distributing For The Bible Tells Me So,' Karslake said. 'I'm honoured that the film is now a part of their impressive library of ground-breaking documentaries.'

'We are so proud to be bringing For The Bible Tells Me So to North American audiences,' First Run Features vice president Marc Mauceri said.

'Not only is it an important film which offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity, but it is also a terrifically entertaining film, one that audiences have responded to with great enthusiasm.'

Cinetic Media represented the film-makers in the deal.
