Fortissimo Film Sales has picked up world rights to highly anticipated Chinese title Foreign Devils At The Door (provisional title), the second picture from actor-turned-director Wen Jiang.

The film, which is expected to be included in today's Cannes competition list, is a story about the last days of Japanese occupation of mainland China. Wen's directorial debut In The Heat Of The Sun (Yangguang Canlan De Rizi) was a hit at the 1994 Venice festival.

Foreign Devils has already screened in Hong Kong for US majors looking for significant rights positions and was snapped up by France's Ocean Films during this week's Hong Kong Asia Film Finance Forum (April 13-17). Ocean's acquisitions manager Thierry Decourcelle also grabbed two other Fortissimo titles - Wong Kar Wai's Cannes competition title In The Mood For Love, which stars Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung (Leung Chiu Wai), and Clara Law's The Goddess Of 1967.

Wen, who has starred in commercial and critical hits as diverse as Mabel Cheung's The Soong Sisters, Zhang Yimou's Keep Cool and Red Sorghum and Fie Xie's Black Snow, also co-stars in Foreign Devils.
