Fortissimo Films has picked up worldwide rights outside of Iran to Majid Majidi's The Song Of Sparrows, winner of the Silver Bear for best actor at this year's Berlin Film Festival.

Prior to its win at the Berlinale, the film also picked up the best director, editing, original score and make-up prizes at the Fajr Film Festival in Tehran.

Majidi's credits also include Children Of Heaven, which is the only Iranian film ever to be nominated for the best foreign-language film Academy Award, The Colour Of Paradise and Baran.

The deal for worldwide rights was brokered between Fortissimo Films' acquisition consultant Ellis Driessen and managing director Nelleke Driessen, and Ramyar Rossoukh on behalf of the film's production company Majidi Film Production.

On making the announcement, Fortissimo's Ellis Driessen stated: 'We were utterly charmed by this humorous and humanistic film. It is an audience-pleaser that leaves everyone with a smile afterwards. Majid Majidi has once again made a triumphant film that compliments his already impressive achievements. We are honored to be working with him on his latest work.'
