France's CNC has released initial production figures for the year 2006. In total, 203 films received the stamp of approval from the CNC - which is equal to 2004, though down from last year's exceptional crop of 240 films.

Production investment stood at $1.49bn (Euros 1.15bn) compared to $1.66bn (Euros 1.28bn) in 2005, though up on 20004.

2005 saw an increase in international co-productions with 114 total, or almost one out of every two approved films.

In 2006, however 100% French productions made up 128 of the 203 films, representing 63% of overall production.
