Elisabeth Murdoch, chairman and CEO of the Shine Group, and Gail Egan, producer and founder of Potboiler Productions, have joined the UK Film Council Board of Directors.

'It's fantastic news that Elisabeth and Gail have agreed to join the UK Film Council board,' said UK Film Council chairman Stewart Till CBE. 'I know that Gail and Elisabeth will be a huge asset to the UK Film Council and I look forward to working with them as we build on the first seven years of work and face the significant challenges and opportunities of film in the digital age.'

Gail Egan formed independent production company Potboiler Productions with Simon Channing Williams in 2000. She has produced or executive produced 11 films, including Mike Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky and Vera Drake, Fernando Meirelles' The Constant Gardener and Blindness, and Keith Fulton and Lou Pepe's Brothers Of The Head.

Murdoch's Shine Group is fourth largest producer in the UK, according to Broadcast Magazine's Independent Production Survey 2007. Murdoch recently oversaw the addition of US production and distribution company Reveille, famous for scripted hits such as Ugly Betty, The Office and The Tudors, to the Shine Group.

The appointments were made by Margaret Hodge MP, Minister for Culture, and will run for four years with immediate effect.
