The Taj Mahal, the Mughal monument of love and India's premiere tourist attraction has become the favourite subject of a handful of Indian filmmakers. There are at least four films in pre-production and one already complete on the story of the Taj.

Indian Writer-director-producer Akbar Khan last week began filming Taj Mahal - An Eternal Love Story at the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, where former Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur officially opened a specially erected white marble set with a fine replica of the Taj Mahal in the backdrop

Meanwhile, Hollywood-based Indian filmmaker Krishna Shah has announced the production of Taj Mahal as a multi million dollar international production with global investors.

At the same time, established Indian filmmaker Bharat Bala has launched an IMAX version of the legendary love story of Mumtaz Mahal and Mughal emperor Shahjahen.

Finally, Indian animation company Toonz Animation has announced the production of an animated version of the Taj Mahal story.

Two years ago an English-language feature film Taj Mahal by filmmaker Robin Khosla was screened at American Film Market.
