Italian distributor Mikado has acquired Venice closing night film Vengo, directed by Tony Gatlif, a French-Spanish co-production that is being sold worldwide by France's Flach Pyramide International.

Following the international arthouse success of Gatlif's award-winning titles Latcho Drom and Gadjo Dilo, Vengo - in which Gatlif once again explores his gypsy roots, this time in Andalucia - has already been pre-sold to Senator for Germany and Austria, Nikkatsu for Japan and Korea and Filmcoopi for Switzerland.

Spanish co-producer Astrolabio Pictures acquired all South American rights to the film at post-production stage. After this year's Cannes, Flach Pyramide sold the title to Belgian distributor Progres Films. Dutch rights have been bagged by Contact and Greek rights by Rosebud.

Vengo - produced by Gatlif's own Princes Films and to be released October 25 in France by UGC Fox Distribution (UFD) - has also been invited to Toronto.
