Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha, producer Barnaby Thompson and BAFTA chief executive Amanda Berry are among the names on the judging panel on this year's Nike Young Directors Award.

Entrants are to write scripts for a three-minute sport-themed film. Three finalists will each receive£7,000 to turn their treatments into films, which will be screened in October. The winner will be distributed through specialist short film company Britshorts.

The judges include the British Film Institute deputy director Adrian Wootton, actor James Fox and athlete Denise Lewis.

The award is in its second year. Last year's winner was Tunnel Vison, directed by Alex Soskin, who is now represented by the William Morris Agency and is directing music videos.
