Spain'sSogecine has unveiled new details of Spanish auteurJulio Medem's next film, Caotica Ana, set to begin shooting on February 13.

Literally "Chaotic Ana,"the $6m (Euros 5m), majority Spanish-language film will star an internationalcast headlined by newcomer Manuela Velles, in herfeature debut, as the title character and singer Bebe,a recent best new artist winner at the Latin Grammy Awards.

Charlotte Rampling, president ofthis year's Berlin jury, is inadvanced negotiations to take a role as well. Other international castingincludes Gerrit Graham, Matthias Habich,Nicolas Cazale, Ash Newman, Raul Pena and Lluis Homar.

Medem will shoot the film inhigh-definition with a Sony HdCam 950, the cameraused on both Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith and Sin City. Ana is the first European production touse this technology, according to producer Sogecine.

In the words of the director, "Caotica Ana is the story-journey of Ana during four years of her life,from 18 to 22. A countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7... until 0,like in hypnosis, through which Ana proves that she does not live alone, thather existence seems like a continuation of other lives of young women who diedin a tragic way, all at the age of 22, and who live in the abyss of herunconscious memory. This is her chaos."

"Ana is the princess and the monster of this feminist fableagainst the tyranny of the white man."

Habitual collaborators on the crew include Oscar-nominatedcomposer Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener) and DP Mario Montero. The film will alsoinclude scenes in English, French, Arabic and at least one Native Americanlanguage.

Ana is aproduction of Sogecine, which has backed all of Medem's films starting with 1992's Cows (Vacas), together with Medem's own Alicia Produce and collaboration fromTenerife-based Volcano Films. It will shoot for 11 weeks in Madrid,the Canary Islands, Ibiza, New York and Arizonain Spanish and English.

Sogecine sister company Sogepaq has national and international rights.
