UTV Motion Pictures release Kismat Konnection grossed $6.3m (Rs270m) worldwide on its opening weekend (July 18-20), including $4.9m (Rs208m) in India, which makes it the second biggest opener of the year in its home territory.

Directed by Aziz Mirza and produced by Tips Production, the Hindi-language film was shot in Toronto and stars Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan. It was released on more than 900 screens worldwide, including the US, UK, Australia, Pakistan and Middle East.

Star-laden thriller Race, also produced by Tips and distributed by UTV, is the biggest opener of the year so far, and went on to gross $20.8m (Rs900m).

In Australia, Kismat Konnection saw a weekend collection of $43,300 (Rs1.8m), which gives it the third highest screen averageof 2008 behind The Dark Knight and Mamma Mia, according to UTV. In the UK, the film grossed $224,000 (Rs9.6m) over the three-day weekend.
