Gabriele Muccino's Italian blockbuster, The Last Kiss, has found new love in the US and the UK.

Tom Rosenberg's Lakeshore Entertainment has acquired US remake rights to the romantic comedy which grossed more than $1m for North American distributor THINKFilm in the US and $10m for local distributor Medusa when it was released in Italy last year.

Fandango, the production outfit behind the hit movie, confirmed the new deal took place at this month's MIFED film market.

THINKFilm previously acquired North American distribution rights to the 30-somthing film, which stars Stefano Accorsi, Giovana Mezzogiorno and Stefania Sandrelli. The picture won five David Di Donatello Awards in Italy including Best Director.

Meanwhile, Rome-based sales outfit Intramovies has sold the picture to UK outfit Matrix Film Finance. Headed by ex-Momentum head Rupert Preston, the company will release the title under a new distribution label in 2003.

But The Last Kiss is not the only Italian title to have recently found an entry into North America: Intramovies has also sold local distribution rights to Monica Stambrini's lesbian-themed drama Benzina (Gasoline) to US distributor Strand Releasing. Canadian rights have been acquired by Mongrel Media.

The film, which marks documentary filmmaker Stambrini's first venture into fiction, was produced by Galliano Juso's Digital Film. It stars Maya Sansa and Regina Orioli.
