Lions Gate Films has acquired worldwide rights to My Big Fat Greek Wedding, a comedy produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's Playtone Productions.

Based on the autobiographical stage show by Nia Vardalos, the film is directed by Joel Zwick, produced by Hanks, Goetzman and Hanks' wife Rita Wilson and stars Vardalos and an ensemble cast including John Corbett, Gia Caredes and N Sync member Joey Fatone.

Currently in post-production, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is the story of a young Greek American woman's trials and tribulations when she falls for a mild-mannered American. Financed by Gold Circle Films and produced by Playtone and MPH Entertainment, the film has already been licensed to HBO domestically.

It joins a slate of new pictures at Lions Gate Films International including Rarebirds, a Canadian comedy starring William Hurt, Molly Parker and Andy Jones and directed by Sturla Gunnarsson; I Fougtht The Law, a mob drama starring Kiefer Sutherland, Anthony LaPaglia and Radha Mitchell; and Route 666, an action thriller with Lou Diamond Phillips, LQ Jones and Lori Petty.
