In the second deal of the Sundance Film Festival, Lions Gate Films has bought North American distribution rights to Tom DiCillo's latest film Double Whammy, which screened in the Premiere section, for an estimated $1m. The deal was negotiated between Lions Gate Films co-presidents Tom Ortenberg and Mark Urman with David Kronemyer of the film's production company Gold Circle Films and agents Cassian Elwes of WMA Independent and Howard Cohen of UTA who were co-representing the film.

Myriad Pictures has international rights to the film and is currently weighing offers, although Myriad chief Kirk D'Amico said it was likely he would wait until AFM before making any deals.

Double Whammy is a comedy starring Denis Leary as a New York police detective whose back fails him when he is confronted by a vicious gunman. Steve Buscemi plays his partner and Elizabeth Hurley his chiropractor.
