The top trio from the Locarno festival - artistic director Irene Bignardi, president Marco Solari and selector Teresa Cavani - were on hand yesterday to introduce the innovations of this year's festival.

The Leopard of Honour will be presented to UK director Ken Loach, while this year's tribute to a producer will go to Vega Film's Ruth Waldburger, a regular partner of Jean-Luc Godard.

Other highlights will be a major retrospective about jazz and cinema; a tribute to novelist Friedrich Duerrenmatt; and, the second running of the 'In Progress' sidebar. The section which matches cinema, art and the places they are made this year puts the spotlight on Matthew Barney and his Cremaster cycle of films and Oscar-winning music composer Ennio Morricone.
