Mandalay Pictures is teaming up with Liquid Comics (formerly Virgin Comics) on a film of Liquid's graphic novel Ramayan 3392 AD.

Mark Canton and his Atmosphere Entertainment (300, The Spiderwick Chronicles) will produce the film alongside Mandalay Pictures. Gotham Chopra and Sharad Devarajan of Liquid Comics will executive produce the Mandalay Pictures/Atmosphere Entertainment production.

As scripted by John Collee, Ramayan 3392 AD is a re-imagined vision of the ancient myth. It will follow the adventures of the legendary blue-skinned warrior, Prince Rama, as he fights to save his beloved from the demon forces that plague the land.

The graphic novel, was guided by Liquid Comics' Suresh Seetharaman and illustrated by breakthrough artist Jeevan Kang. The comic is also being developed as a multi-player online game by Sony Online Entertainment.

Other Liquid Comics projects include the graphic novel Virulents, which is set up at New Regency with director John Moore and The Gamekeeper which is set up at Warner Bros for Joel Silver to produce and Guy Ritchie to direct.

Mandalay Pictures president Cathy Schulman and executive vice president Scarlett Lacey will oversee the project for Mandalay; Atmosphere Entertainment vice president of development, David Hopwood, will oversee for Atmosphere.

Mandalay is also in development on a remake of The Birds with Martin Campbell set to direct and a film of graphic novel Julius to be directed by F Gary Gray.

Collee's credits include Creation currently in production with Jon Amiel directing, Happy Feet and Master And Commander. He is represented by CAA.
