The Ramsgate-based UK mini-studio Medb Films has just won the top prize in the Creative Industries Category at the Kent Business Awards.

Medb was founded by Elaine Wickham and Jan Dunn, the pair behind acclaimd British dogme feature Gypo and the newly completed Ruby Blue, starring Bob Hoskins and Josiane Balasko.

The company is next working on The Calling, which will also shoot in Kent starting in August. Brenda Blethyn will star alongside Natalie Press.

Widkham said: 'A business award means a lot to a film company and I hope it will help to gain finance for bigger films in the future.'

They already have local backing from business partner James Thomas of Ramsgate's Royal Harbour Hotel.
