The Rome Film Festival has announced several titles confirmed for its second edition, which takes place October 18-27 in the Italian capital.

Argentinian film-maker Hector Babenco's The Past (El Pasado) starring Gael Garcia Bernal as well as Spanish director Julio Medem's Chaotic Ana (Caotica Ana) are both confirmed for Rome's main competition.

Dario Argento's Third Mother (Terza Madre) will close the Premiere section dedicated to gala films in anticipation of its Halloween rollout. Film is the final segment to horror trilogy Mother of Tears and stars his daughter Asia Argento.

Italian author Silvio Soldini's Days and Clouds (Giorni e nuvole) starring Margherita Buy will also have a Premiere screening. Both titles come to Rome after being unveiled at Toronto and will inject some local star power to the red carpet.

Titles previously confirmed for Rome's premiere section include Shekhar Kapur's Elizabeth: The Golden Age with Cate Blanchett and Clive Owen as well as Francis Ford Coppola's Youth Without Youth with Tim Roth and Bruno Ganz. Actors and directors of these films are expected to attend.


Out of competition titles added to the roster include film-event Patti Smith: A Dream Of Life by Steven Sebring tipped as a poetic look at forty years of American cultural life.

Sidney Lumet, Ethan Hawke and Philip Seymour Hoffman are expected for Rome's European premiere of Lumet's crime picture Before The Devil Knows You're Dead, to be presented in Rome's Actor's Studio section. Other titles include European premiere of War Dance directed by Sean Fine and Andrea Nix.

'Alice In The City', the section dedicated to kid's pictures announces a world premiere for Brad Isaac's Have A Dream Will Tavel. Anand Tucker's And when did you last see your father' The film stars Colin Firth who is expected to attend.

The full line up for Rome Film Festival's second edition will be presented on September 27th, with Alice and the City's roster being announced on September 19.
