UK distributor Metro Tartan has picked up Cannes competitors In The Mood For Love and Faithless, plus Miike Takashi's extremist psycho-thriller Audition.

The move follows USA Films' acquisition for North America of Wong Kar-wai's In The Mood from Fortissimo Film Sales at Cannes. Tony Leung, who stars in the Hong Kong romantic drama opposite Maggie Cheung, won the award for Best Male Performance at Cannes, while the film also came away with the Technical Grand Prize.

Liv Ullman's Faithless, which surprised many by being overlooked by the Cannes jury, is being handled by Svensk Filmindustri and stars Lena Endre and Erland Josephson. Audition went down a storm at this year's International Film Festival Rotterdam, winning prizes including a special mention for an important new director.
