Buoyed by Donnie Darko, which last week helped slash its annual losses by two thirds, UK media concern the Metrodome Group has acquired another surreal US Sundance film, Northfork, from Paramount Classics.

Metrodome picked up UK theatrical and home video rights to the film, which stars Nick Nolte, Daryl Hannah, James Woods, Anthony Edwards, Claire Forlani, Peter Coyote and Kyle MacLachlan.

Paramount released the film in the US last week, with Metrodome planning to open it early next year.

Directed by Michael Polish, who debuted with Twin Falls Idaho, the 1955-set story deals with the inhabitants of a small town - including a host of angels - on the eve of its destruction by a new dam. Ben Roberts, director of sales and acquisitions at Metrodome, negotiated the deal with Paramount.
