The Mexican Film Commission has reported that 2,586 productions have shot in Mexico since its inception in September 1995, boosting the local economy by an estimated $839m.
In total, the Commission has received 5,438 requests for information, 2,959 from domestic productions, 2,440 from the US, Canada, Europe and Asia and 39 from co-productions with Mexico. Projects include feature films, documentaries, shorts, photo-shoots and television programmes.
The Commission also estimated that the filming of Titanic in Mexico generated earnings of $85m alone, while The Mask Of Zorro contributed $40m.
Recent US shoots in Mexico include Dreamworks' Brad Pitt vehicle The Mexican, MGM's Original Sin and Warner Bros' Collateral Damage, currently shooting in the state of Vera Cruz.
