Shrek 2 saw anothermighty weekend for UIP as it rolled out in five new territories claiming numberone positions and records as it went.

The animated sequel added $31.5m this weekend from holdoversand the new territories: France, Belgium, Switzerland, Indonesia and the UnitedArab Emirates, and has already earned $68m for UIP - which handles thefilm internationally except in Hong Kong and South Korea.

Belgium saw the film record the biggest animated opening ofall time. Shrek 2 claimed $1.3m (Euro1.04m) from 109 screens over the five-day opening and $1.7m (Euro 1.4m)including previews. It beat last year's Finding Nemo by five percent.

France saw first five day figures of $9.9m from 773locations. Indonesia took $202,490 from 45. In Switzerland's French-speakingregion the film managed $431,208 (SFR 535,388) in five days, while theGerman-speaking region took $519,734 (SFR 645,302) in four days for a territorytotal of $950,942. The Italian-speaking region will not receive the film untilDec 17.

In addition to the $31.5m officially taken this weekend theUK provided $10m (£5.5m) of previews ahead of its opening next Friday(July 2) when the previews will be included within the launch weekend figures.

Holdover countries also continue to play well. After justtwo weekends on release Shrek 2 hasalready taken over $18m in both Australia and Mexico. Australian figures arealready higher than Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban despite playing for a week less - a situationmirrored in neighbouring New Zealand.

Spain will open the film on Wednesday, June 30 with othermajor European territories the UK and Germany amongst those following at theweekend.
